Originally beginning as an acoustic ballad, 'Disclosure' evolved into the intricate, layered composition you hear today. Released in April 2011, it began the venture of Sophist into the local music scene. The single debuted in Windsor on 95.1/100.7, the Rock and was met with great reception, planting the seeds of a fan base in Southern Ontario. The song serves as an apt representation of the bands style, incorporating subtle synthesizer overdubs, prominent guitar leads, entangled with memorable vocal hooks, and empowering bass lines. The exposure of this song encouraged the band to pursuit their mission of releasing a full length album, which they began writing there afterwards.
lyrics
Disclosure, show me sympathy
Life’s burden, that’s weighing down on me.
What is right, what is wrong?
The choice of a single thought
Drowns the conscience, predicts the plot.
One wish, one truth, ones kiss, one you
This misery waits at my door. Keeps me inside,
subconscious withdraw. This feeling, but a memory.
It’s holding me back, it’s setting me free.
What is right, what is wrong?
The future, the aftermath. These choices I can’t comprehend.
Blinds my sight, fills my mind. This disclosure leaves me blind.
