Square One 04:10
Another day gone down the drain I feel my time slip away Always run against the clock Run from my constant thoughts Another week always the same A beer and joint will keep me sane Get my pay and I'm on the run Back to square fucking one I spend booze and cigarettes While the agencies send there threats It's okay, I don't mind They can't tell me how to live my life And I don't know if I have anymore to give But each day I find the will to live Another day and feel the burn In hopes that I won't return Back to square one I am running out of luck To pay the bills And to find anymore thrills

Lost Soul 05:43
I feel your pain when you bring me closer You say your time is over, your life is just a dissarray My day's are only getting shorter, my mind is running at a different pace I'm just another victim, fixated by your face I'm a lost soul waiting for love I'm a lost soul waiting for you When I'm without you, I'm lost inside my skin You have always told me that life is more than a just dream My mind is suffocating, you're not aware of the cost I've been waiting, I've been waiting for too long I'm a lost soul waiting for love I'm a lost soul waiting the truth to come through I'm a lost soul waiting for love I'm a lost soul waiting for you

An air so cold That I forgot how it felt without With arms wide open, I embrace And welcome it's soothing presence So close to the unknown Finding peace within it's mystery Drifting from moment to memory In the pages of our history And am I without reason, Self-indulgent and cynical Moving closer still, I resurrect my hope Long lost; my confidant, I fear But crucial still, nevertheless So close to the unknown Finding peace within it's mystery Drifting from moment to memory In the pages of our history But shall the end justify the means? I look upon the sky And the stars fill my vision The moon glares back With unwaning precision I leave my fate to this night, so cold And escape from this derision I am lost and overcome But find comfort in my decision

Disclosure 04:10
Disclosure, show me sympathy Life’s burden, that’s weighing down on me. What is right, what is wrong? The choice of a single thought Drowns the conscience, predicts the plot. One wish, one truth, ones kiss, one you This misery waits at my door. Keeps me inside, subconscious withdraw. This feeling, but a memory. It’s holding me back, it’s setting me free. What is right, what is wrong? The future, the aftermath. These choices I can’t comprehend. Blinds my sight, fills my mind. This disclosure leaves me blind.

Insomnia 05:56
When the earth beneath me crumbled You could not look past the sight Light I found deep within me As the moon glowed in the night The suns mockery would taunt me Lullabye me into sleep I am trapped inside my conscience Searching for the key you keep As I lay here in this darkness Waiting for the light to come I await within the shadows Until the break of dawn Your voice haunts my sleep Inside I hear you speak Searching for the answers But I just can't seem to think Of where I should begin What do you wish me to say If the past course of my life Can't seem to fade away The trembling light inside this home The whispers that creep up on me When I am all alone All time is gone, it seems to be
6.
Vendetta 05:04
I await the day When the spiral curves no more Cast upon the hopeless Leaving a faith forlorn A path left unclear Consumed by its roots Leaves nothing to the imagination Not a single word of proof The night sounds fill my ears And beckon me forth back home But uncertainty follows closely Through endless crest and troughs Driven only by the fear of failure I hide my malcontent Never stagnant, never delayed I find my solace with a blade But one word echoes the night Vendetta, vendetta And one thought comsumes my life Vendetta, vendetta
7.
Nostalgia 04:27
Who said that roses won't tear your skin apart Recall the secrets that you've kept inside your heart Stay up and stare into the midnight sky You can't help but feel the coming tide When you seek answers in dark curtains of the night You won't find what you've been searching for all this time Your mind will flood with past memories and what they shame Wake up and breathe in what's left of your despair Nostalgia, I've come too far It breaks my heart to live this life The coming tide, the storm of the night Breathe in and flood your mind Alive beyond your sight The rain will wash away the pain before it harms You stand alone against the tide
8.
As you blend into the shade, a candle flame in the night sky I think of you once again, the moon to my night. Its all just a phase, like the withered leaves Awaiting to be thrown into the wind A portrait of a thousand colors The crimson city, through the years it wanders with me What if your heart rests on the thin line between two souls What if two shades of black and white could paint A portrait of a thousand colors The crimson city, in a thousand colors A portrait of a thousand colors The crimson city, through the years it wanders with me A moment I can't erase. A memory that I hold so near, it tears away

Sunrise 04:21
The cold brushes against the tips of the fingers There is nothing to break the silence, but your own heart beat As we wonder within the frame of this motion picture To the ripple of movement within this feature The satire binds together your reflection The voice echoes within the new intention There is no reason for these thoughts Tomorrow will come in disguise The shadow that lingers by The passing of the sunrise Within the hollow dreams we keep A light beneath the real truth You spoken of a found key to unlock the real you Within the memories we dread The shadow lurks within the thoughts The night awakens the dispair A stage of dream and truth As you walk down the path, towards the stretch Of restless conciousness We seem to forget how it feels to be free The pool of dreams, beckons you forth Unmoved by the wind, whithered rose The passing of the sunrise The shadow that lingers by As the day dissapears into night Within you it will lie
10.
Winds of change bring what stands still In to motion that is beyond your will To have faith in the aftermath And live each day as your last Until the days have passed, with a single glance When there time has gone to show, what went wrong Winds of change bring what stands still In to motion that is beyond your will To have faith in the aftermath And live each day as your last I remember a familiar face, a moment's delay Like a shore lit bloom, I remember the days but they fade Out of reach of me Something you won't see Far away you will be From a time from me

Your New Low 03:16
Now I know what you're all about What you are verse what you show In your moments consumed by doubt I hope you drown in your new low Release the grip on these chains Let them fall into the rain Embrace yourself against the waves As a part of you drifts away Follow the tide wherever it brings Discover yourself hidden within Don't be afraid of the darkened clouds You are without the anchor weighing you down Break out, release The reigns you've held Within the grip of your self Don't hide away in this empty shell Now I know what you're all about What you are verse what you show In your moments consumed by doubt I hope you drown in your new low

She slipped into your skin To touch what you've hidden within What you've treasured the most Taken away by a ghost On this earth, the time flies by You are the one who stepped aside To rest the case, to hide the truth To run from what's become of you The calm before the storm When time has turned To take us somewhere far and near To live inside your biggest fear To feel the calm take on How could I ignore those eyes Staring into my soul Reaching into my life Don't say a word, your mouth is cursed The picture fades, the morning bloom The storm is near, someone like you

about

“Featuring 12 tracks, and clocking in around 55 minutes, Sophist’s debut album, Calm Before The Storm, is a hard beast to describe. Incorporating elements of Progressive Rock, Grunge, and Alternative, Sophist fires out harmonies that are original and deep. Throwing around a raw and aggressive sound, not unlike Alice in Chains, Sophist carves their way through a thicket of various genres while never losing their unique voice. The album art is expressive, original, and psychedelic – pretty indicative of the sound and tones on the disk. There’s no denying that Calm Before The Storm is a strong debut for Sophist. The beats and riffs of the music are entrancing, and songs like “Winds of Change” and “Calm Before The Storm” give Sophist a chance to flex their harmonic muscles, with astonishing results.”
Armando D’Alessandro - ChurcHouse

'Sophist are a prog rock band with a truly beautiful wash of keyboards that creates an almost Dream Theater like sound scape that will carry you away into an older more beautiful time. The guitar arrangements are epic and feature a lot of cool lines that add tons of flavour to the music. I really like some of the arpeggiated acoustic lines. The solos are also pretty mind bending. The bass playing is rather powerful and really lends a lot of might to some of the airier bits. Also on the heavier parts the bass adds a lot of aggression and power to the sound. The drumming is pretty solid and features a lot of really cool fills, it keeps the energy level up too. It adds a nice layer to the music and keeps things tasty. Finally the vocals are very powerful yet they have an almost dreamy quality that takes you away with the sound. I really like the meat behind them. Overall, Sophist is an awesome prog band that will wrap you up in their sound and blow your mind!' - Matt Baggins, 'Two Metal Guys' review
